AI Maintenance Assistant
A live camera compliance assistant for field workers. AI analyses safety gear and equipment readiness before a task begins, and the room's lighting changes colour based on what it sees.

Built for the SAP UK Experience Centre to show how AI vision can operate on the factory floor, not just in the back office.
A technician stands in front of a webcam and triggers a compliance check before starting a maintenance task. A multimodal AI model, running through SAP AI Core, analyses the camera frame and determines whether the correct safety gear and tools are present for that specific work order. The moment the result comes back, the room’s smart lighting changes colour: green for compliant, red for non-compliant. It’s a deliberately tangible payoff: software that produces a physical reaction in the space.
The scenario maps to a genuine problem in manufacturing and asset-intensive industries. Safety compliance checks are still largely manual and supervisor-dependent. This shows how a multimodal AI model, deployed via SAP’s AI infrastructure on BTP, can perform the same assessment in seconds, tied to real work order data from SAP Plant Maintenance. The SuccessFactors angle is a natural extension: persistent non-compliance could automatically trigger a targeted training assignment, connecting operational AI with workforce development.
